(3) Write about the last family meeting that you attended.

It was my cousin, Joey’s birthday last Sunday. She had a birthday party at her house- a bungalow located at Orchard Road. Joey invited some of our relatives including my family and her friends too. On that day, my uncle drove us there as my father’s car had broken down and was sent for repair.

What seemed like hours later, we finally reached our destination. Upon seeing us, my aunt welcomed us in opened arms. We settled down in the living room that was decorated with balloons.

“Help yourselves to the snacks!” my aunt said.

“Thanks! Do you need any help in the kitchen?” my mother inquired.

“Err, Yes. I will be very glad if you can help me,” my aunt replied.

“Okay, sure. Let’s go to the kitchen now,” my mum said.

My mother and my aunt went to the kitchen instantly, while my brother and I went upstairs to accompany Joey and my twin cousin, Jack and Zack and some other kids to play card games. Actually, Jack and Zack were not Joey’s kin, they were step-related.

“Hey Joey, happy birthday to you!” I wished her as I passed the present that I had nicely wrapped to her.

“Thank you!” Joey thanked me.

Soon, we started playing card games like ‘UNO’ and ‘Donkey’. While we were playing ‘UNO’, Jack and Zack accused each other of cheating and they started bickering.

“I saw you cheating! You hid the cards!” Jack vociferated.

“What?! I didn’t cheat! You’re the one who’s cheating!” Zack bellowed as he showed all his cards to others to prove that he was innocent.

“Okay guys, stop it!” I stepped in to refrain them from starting a fight.

“It’s just a game, you don’t have to quarrel over a game!” Joey said with a stern look.

Before we could restart the card game, my uncle called us to gather at the living room. When we were in the living room, the aroma of the curry chicken and chili crab could be smelt around. “Wow!” I exclaimed as I almost drooled upon sighting the mouth-watering dishes. Soon, the dishes were all spread on the table. We sang birthday song to Joey and she cut her cake. After cutting the cake and presenting our birthday wishes to Joey, we tucked in. The fried chicken wings were all very crunchy and succulent. We really had a sumptuous meal that day. After eating all the food, we helped to clean up. I usually didn’t help to do household at home, but I did quite a lot of washing-ups that day. After washing-up, we sang karaoke while some of the adults played mahjong.

At around 9pm, we departed Joey’s house and went home. It was a memorable family gathering although it was just a birthday party at someone’s house. I truly enjoyed myself and had lots of fun.
